Pauline Proulx & David Miller

PAULINE PROULX has performed all types of music – from folk to pop to rock to jazz – in English and French for many years. Her varied experience locally and abroad, on land and sea, for heads of state and even children, has allowed her to ‘fuel’ her music craft to the brim. Audience members have noted that the raspiness in her voice brings out some of the sultry nuances in a song, yet the element of sweetness remains. “Entertaining folks of all ages still continues to provide me with the pleasure that music brings.”

Pianist DAVID R. MILLER was a full-time musician in the late 1970s and early 1980s. He played in several local bands, including Atlantis and Exit 18. David taught classical and popular music, and composed scores for TV shows and commercials. Later in life, David grew up, cut his hair, and got a real job. Since retiring, he considers music his full-time profession once again. David has composed and performed jazz at the TD Ottawa Jazz Festival, the Merrickville’s Jazz Fest, the NAC Fourth Stage, and the Shenkman Arts Centre, as well as at many other local venues.

Special guest, saxophonist Ian Schwartz, will join Pauline and David on several numbers.

IAN SCHWARTZ was classically trained at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal but, ever since he was a teenager, he had other ideas. Ian’s entree to the world of jazz was through the fusion bands of the ’70s. He wore out the grooves on Return to Forever’s Where Have I Known You Before. Weather Report, Pat Metheny, and Keith Jarret were constantly playing on his turntable. Ian took a couple of decades off from music to spend time being a father, but got the jazz bug again when his kids became more independent. Ian has been playing jazz standards around the city with various ensembles and loving his personal jazz renaissance.
